User needs a Vienna-specific student residence permit renewal workflow.
Local workflow
MA 35
City pages need local authority logic, sources, and filing proof, not copied generic text.
The renewal window and appointment trail
The City of Vienna says you must file the renewal before the current student permit expires and may do so at the earliest three months before expiry. If you live in Vienna, the renewal is filed in person at an MA 35 branch office. Save the appointment trail and the filing confirmation because MA 35 states that a timely renewal lets you remain in Austria and continue studying while the application is pending.
What makes a renewal file credible
The core file is identity, current permit, housing costs, Austrian insurance, secured means of subsistence, and proof that your studies are progressing. The Vienna service page lists at least 16 ECTS or 8 weekly semester hours in the previous academic year as an example of progress proof for renewal cases.
Working checklist
- Signed application form
- Passport and copy of the full passport
- Current Austrian student residence permit
- Recent biometric passport photo
- Proof of regular housing costs such as rental contract or student housing agreement
- Austrian health insurance covering all risks
- Proof of secured means of subsistence for the whole permit period
- Study confirmation plus renewal progress proof such as 16 ECTS or 8 weekly semester hours in the previous academic year
- Current credit self-disclosure if requested by MA 35
Common mistakes
- Waiting until expiry to look for an MA 35 appointment
- Using travel insurance instead of qualifying Austrian coverage
- Treating study-progress evidence as optional in a renewal file
